People and purpose are at the heart of everything I do, from creating outstanding digital products and experiences to facilitating workshops and training sessions, or helping people achieve meaningful, sustainable growth through my coaching practice. Across the board, the foundational principles are the same: curiosity, empathy and trust.
At some point in their career, most designers reach a point where they have a decision to make. Do they stay on the tools, or make the leap to management? It is a decision that can often feel like staring into the abyss. From the safety and security of your comfort zone, a giant leap into the unknown can be a terrifying prospect, often with no real support or guidance along the way. All of the experience, skills and tools that got you here suddenly seem less useful, and the doubt and negative self-talk can start to creep in. As a Product Design Director and Creative Coach, I specialise in working with designers as they traverse that abyss, bridging the gap to the other side, and forging a path for themselves in the leadership world. In this talk, we'll cover some of the most common obstacles, issues and roadblocks faced by the designers I work with, and I'll explain some simple hacks, tips and tricks that can help you thrive as a design manager and people lead.
